I love to share my passion for birds and nature study, as well as my writing process. The programs below can be tailored for pre-K through fifth grade.
Let’s Learn About Birds!
Birds are everywhere, which is why they are an ideal subject for science and nature exploration. Using Bird Count as a centerpiece, Susan introduces the essentials of bird habitat and identification, while sharing the fun of counting and tallying birds. Hands-on activities and supplemental resources will launch students on their own birding adventures.
Pre-K to Grade 1, 30 minutes; Grades 2 to 5, 45 minutes
Writing from Nature
When you look out your window, there’s always something to write about. In this workshop, Susan focuses on the inspiration behind Bird Count, and shares tips about her writing process from close observation through revision. With writing prompts and short activities, Susan guides students in unearthing the seeds of their own voices in the environment around them.
